Letter from Mr Naudi

(Updated for 20/12/24)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Although issues are in hand, we have been informed by Sutton and East Surrey Water that the water system will take some time to fully recover. It is still very unlikely that our toilet systems will work for the number of people ordinarily on school site. On this basis, regrettably school will be closed today, Friday 20th December.

As such, I write, first and foremost, to thank all of you for your support in another successful term and to wish you all a restful, happy Christmas break. Please also see below for notices and updates from me as we close the term.

Year 11 Progress

I would like to congratulate our Year 11 cohort for excellent attendance and attitudes during their mock exams over the past couple of weeks, including today when the rest of the school are not in. I also thank all of you as parents/carers for making sure that your child has the right motivation at the end of a long term to really do their best. I am confident that this bodes well for their final exam grades at the end of the academic year.

We are also looking to bolster our additional revision / exam preparation studies for our Year 11 students this year to give them the best possible chance of achieving their full potential. Details of these steps will be communicated with you in due course.

Activity Day

I am extremely pleased to share with you the great success of our recent Activity Day with around 1800 students attending a school trip. It is wonderful to be able to give students the opportunity to enjoy days out with school staff again following the disruption caused by Covid and it was particularly heartening to see (and hear!) coach-loads of happy students returning to school in the afternoon. I would like to thank all staff involved for their extensive efforts in making this day so successful.

Reminders and Expectations

As is sometimes the case at the end of term, we have noticed some students’ uniform standards slip. It is a basic expectation of all our students that they are smartly presented and this is a key part of the high standards of the school generally. A reminder to all parents/carers that branded socks should not be worn over tights and that blazers should be worn at all times unless it is unduly warm. The uniform requirements can be found here. Please ensure that your child returns to school in the New Year with these met.

Subject Teacher Meetings

Please make sure that you take a look at this week’s Cheam High Flyer (here) where you will find details of changes to the times to our Subject Teacher Meetings (Parents’ Evenings). This is particularly important for parents/carers of Year 8 and 10 students as meetings take place in January. You will also find details of a new late to school procedure which will be implemented in the new year.

Finally, I wish everyone in our school community the very best for the New Year ahead and thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and co-operation with us in working to secure the best outcomes for your children.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Naudi
