F1 in Schools Regional Competition

On Friday 7th March, Undaunted Racing participated in the F1 in Schools Regional Competition held at University of Bath.

The competition is divided into four strands: Design and Engineering, Graphics and Renderings, Sponsorship and Marketing and Brand Identity.

Team Project Manager, Jacob, had spent five months prior developing their car using CAD fusion software and testing aerodynamics using CFD software.

Jasmine focused on developing professional renders of the car, highlighting our key sponsors KayScience, Plantlet Culture, UCL and School Leaver Company who have collaborated with the team to ensure that our team could achieve their target budget and therefore qualify for the regionals.

Jack developed 3D print designs of the car wings which were sent to Make it Quick for 3D printing.

Another aspect of the competition was to develop high quality engineering drawings, which Harry in Year 12 was in charge of.

Maya focused on Sponsorship and Marketing ensuring that the team organised several fundraising events in school to meet target budget. These events ranged from cake sales to pencil making sessions and not only advertised F1 in schools to younger years, but also raised awareness of current issues with sustainability that all students and adults alike need to be aware of.

At the competition, the team went through five judging rounds and three races with their pit display, getting lots of praise from both judges and students from other schools. The team managed to secure top three in both the Sponsorship and Marketing category and Team Identity, out of 22 schools, with their car coming 12th in the racing. This is a massive achievement for the team and we look forward to more teams participating in next year’s competition.

Team Graphics Designer Jasmine and Finance Manager Matthew are now participating in the Alpine1 STEM racing competition
with students from the lower school.

We would like to thank our sponsors KayScience, School Leavers Company, UCL and Plantlet Culture for supporting the team and making this possible, as well as staff and students at Cheam High who supported us and helped us raise £650 from cake sales and pencil making.

If any students would like to be part of the F1 in Schools team for next season, please see Miss Banda in S27 as we have started preparing for next year.
