Year 7 Sponsored Walk

It's nearly time for the Year 7 inter-tutor Sponsored Walk 2025!

What is it?

Each year at Cheam High, Year 7 students take part in a sponsored walk event.  In the event, students complete as many laps of a loop on the school astro-turf as they can, earning points for their tutor group with each lap and earning money for good causes.  The event also features games and challenges for students which are stationed nearby the walking route.

This year’s theme will be Walk the World – students will be seeing if they can walk the distance from London to other cities around the world.  Between them, can they walk the 1500km to Rome or perhaps even the 5700km to Kazakhstan?

When will the walk take place?

This year’s walk will take place on Wednesday 9th July during period 3 (Q band) and period 4 (K band).  Students should attend school in their full PE kit on this day, ready to walk as far as they can!

What happens with the sponsorship money?

Money raised this year will be used to improve school facilities and to help the local community.  Half of the money will go to The Butterfly AVM Charity, a charity that raises funds for much needed research into the understanding of arteriovenous malformation (AVM) which can cause serious health complications. You can find out more about them here.

The other half of the money raised will go towards improving our playground facilities, including installing basketball hoops for Year 7 and 8 students to use during their break times.

How does sponsorship work?

Sponsorship forms will be given out to students in tutor time. You can also download a sponsorship form for family and friends from our website here.

We ask for a minimum of £1 p/student to take part in the event (although we never exclude anyone from taking part on grounds of cost).  Your child can bring their contribution to their tutor in an envelope in cash, or you can transfer money on ParentPay here.

The deadline for sponsorship to be collected is Friday 11th July.

We thank you, as always, for your support of the school and will update you as to students’ progress through the Flyer.  Hopefully students will have great fun and raise funds for a really worthwhile cause.
