St Paul's Space Camp

Thank you so much to award winning physicist @benstill and the team @StPaulsSchool for giving one of our students the chance to experience Space Camp!

Here is Harry's round-up...

Over the three days, we conducted numerous activities and lectures led by experts in their respective fields. During the course, we spent a considerable amount of time building the rockets that we would later launch. We also spent some time in IT classrooms coding a chip that we would put in the rocket to calculate data, including height, pressure and temperature.

In addition to this, we were able to control a miniature Mars rover, which as a team we communicated over time, mapping, coding and driving to reach certain destinations. We listened to many lectures on a range of topics, including exoplanets, space weather, space electronics and planetary science/Astrobiology. Many of the lecturers had PHD’s in their fields and many of them have also been apart of space missions and worked for the ESA and NASA. We also carried out a space weather war game, which allowed us to apply our knowledge of space weather and decide what actions to take for specific events like solar flares.

I believe that these sessions have helped me to get a glance not only into space but into the jobs and roles you can have and their
variety. I strongly believe that if you are interested in space, you should consider applying. Just remember to be passionate and willing to give everything a try.
