King’s Trust Visit to DE Shaw
Posted: 2/10/25

Our King's Trust students had the wonderful opportunity to experience the world of work and got to visit the prestigious financial institute: DE Shaw.
On the day, Maisie and Brooke were given £1000 in play notes to invest in stocks and shares. Brooke made the most money and enjoyed competing against Maisie. They were taught about how to be financially aware and invest wisely.
Brooke and Maisie also had to come up with a business plan and present it to a panel of potential investors. The panel were very impressed with their ideas and wanted to invest in both.
Maisie had the fabulous idea of making a home interior application and Brooke sold the idea of a rehabilitation application to help former criminals and drug users. They were also taught the importance of a strong CV and how to write a covering letter by the HR staff of DE Shaw, who are used to seeing a lot of CVs. We are sure this will benefit them in the future.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day and met very inspirational staff members who have come from all walks of life and have excelled at DE Shaw. It proved to Maisie and Brooke that they can go for whatever dream job they want to and that their future is bright.
