Year 9: Cheam vs. Macclesfield U14s
Cheam were fortunate enough to play against Macclesfield U14s on the first-team pitch - a fantastic challenge for the boys. Cheam’s overall performance was excellent; they worked just as hard off the ball as they did on it, which playeda crucial role in nullifying the Macclesfield attack.
In goal, Freddie M made several huge saves to keep a clean sheet and keep Cheam in the hunt for a winner. That moment finally arrived in the second half when Jack R headed home at the back post. The game finished 1-0 to Cheam, capping off a thoroughly excellent performance on a wonderful occasion.
Result: Macclesfield 0–1 Cheam
Year 11 Sutton Cup Final: Cheam vs. Sutton Grammar
The Year 11 football team concluded their season - and their school football careers at Cheam - with a tense final hosted at Northey Avenue. Cheam started as the stronger side, moving the ball well across the pitch. Despite creating several chances, they initially struggled to find the back of the net.
Persistence eventually paid off for Cheam when Johnny G maintained his composure to bend the ball into the net from inside the
box. Leading 1-0 at half-time, Cheam began the second half on the front foot; however, midway through the half, Sutton Grammar pounced on a moment of clumsy defending and poor concentration to level the score at 1-1.
With the game deadlocked at the final whistle, the match went straight to penalties. Cheam missed their first spot-kick, handing Sutton Grammar the early advantage. Sutton Grammar later missed a penalty of their own by sending the ball over the bar, allowing Cheam to claw their way back. With the shootout level, it came down to a test of nerves. Thankfully, Archie C saved a crucial penalty, meaning Cheam only had to score to be crowned champions. Riley T stepped up and sealed the victory with a fantastic penalty under high pressure.
Congratulations to all the boys for a fantastic season! They have now been crowned Sutton Cup Champions for the third time in five years.
Result: 1-1 (Cheam won 4-3 on penalties)
