We Need to Talk About Phones...

Free Event for Parents/Carers - Wednesday 10th June 2026
Thank you to the hundreds of you who completed our recent parent/carer survey regarding attitudes to smartphone use amongst young people and our current plans to update our mobile phone policy for September. Whilst, almost universally, we all acknowledge there are positive aspects to smartphones, evidence from the survey (and that of school staff) is very clear that there is growing concern about the harms that smartphones can cause to young people in a wide range of ways.
As you will likely be aware, we are far from alone in considering changes to our current policy, particularly for incoming Year 7s, with high quality schools across the country seeking to safeguard children as best as possible and minimise educational disruption. We will communicate any policy changes with the school community in due course. In the meantime, we think it is high time that we did more work to inform parents/carers of the issues that schools experience as a consequence of children’s smartphone use, as well as sharing information on the influence of smartphone use on young people’s neurodevelopment. We hope that attending the event will equip you with new knowledge and empower you to make the decisions you think best for your child in what is a very challenging area of modern parenting.
The event will consist of two presentations, delivered in an engaging manner by professionals who can draw on extensive expertise and real-life case studies in this field:
Session 1: Smartphones & Safeguarding: What Really Goes On Behind the Screen...? - led by Mr P Vosper, Deputy Headteacher / Designated Safeguarding Lead and the school's safeguarding specialists (45 mins)
Session 2: Smartphones & What the Neuroscience Tells Us: How do Smartphones Impact Growing Brains? - led by Andrew Wright, Founder & Chief Executive of Action Your Potential (45 mins)
Refreshments will be provided in a short break between presentations.
Please note that due to the nature of subject-matter that will be discussed, this event is not suitable for students or children.
