World Book Week Update
Posted: 18/03/25

What a week!
In the library, we started off the week with lots of students taking part in our "Once upon a story" creative writing task and received some brilliant and beautifully written pieces throughout the week. This was followed by our Potato Book Character contest which was so much fun! It was fantastic to see the library so full on Thursday lunchtime for our Book Day Quiz, which created lots of fun, laughter and noise (just the way we like our library events!).
It was extremely difficult to select our winners, as everyone deserved to be recognised. However, the lucky winners were all announced on Monday.
In the English department, we held our annual World Book Day competition for Years 7, 8 and 9. Students were asked to design the front cover of their favourite book and our wonderful English ambassadors made up the judging panel. It was lovely to see so many hand-drawn, colourful, and unique front covers from our youngest students.
The English Department also led an assembly for each year group at Key Stage 3, reminding students of the reason World Book Day was created and the importance of reading in all of our lives. This year the theme for World Book Day was “Read your Way” and so
in English, Year 7 and 8 students took part in a lesson in which they explored their own reading “journeys.”
A huge thank you to all the staff for their hard work, for those who dressed up as their favourite characters and to those staff who
displayed their current and favourite reads to stimulate conversations around reading.
