Eco Mural Takes Shape!

On the final Friday and Saturday of the Easter break, a group of 12 students and staff painted Cheam High’s first ever mural!  The mural is over 20 metres long and approximately four metres high and features the original designs of students who entered an eco mural competition back in 2021.
We worked with David Earthrowl from Sprayscapes to knit together different elements of students’ work into one coherent piece of art. The work celebrates native species of flower, such as dandelions and foxgloves, as well as key native animals such as a badger, and the sadly declining Duke of Burgundy butterfly.
Students worked incredibly hard to complete the work, clambering up and down ladders with pots of paint for two solid days. Work was finally finished at 7.30pm on Saturday evening and a drab wall had been well and truly transformed! We would like to extend thanks to Graphenstone paint who provided us free paint to complete the work. Graphenstone produces the most environmentally friendly paint on the market which, being made with limestone, the paint even absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere meaning the mural’s eco-credentials are not just visual!
